The town of Barolo, renowned for the production of one of the most appreciated wines, is set on a tableland surrounded by sweeps of vineyards and protected by the surrounding hills.

To get to know Barolo, it’s important to visit its castles, direct proof of the medieval age: the manor erected on the border of the concentric is majestic and it’s reachable by walking down the main street, where there are also lots of wine shops for wine tasting.

The castle become property of the council administration in 1970: since that moment it suffered some important interventions aimed at its restoration. At the moment,

History
The originating nucleus seems to be the squared tower, still recognizable today. Then, the castle has been developing, first with structures made of perishable material, then with curtains and sleeves made of bricks.

In the southern junctions you can see two cylindrical turrets. The residential sleeves are placed agains the curtains. Probably the entrance was through a drawbridge in the area where now you can find the today’s church.

It becomes a noble residence with various comforts and delegation rooms; in the second half of the XIX century the castle has been modified by the architect Trocelli, who has largely changed the inner and outer aspect of the complex, adding a new sleeve for the service settings.
