Valle Stura
The Stura river runs through this valley from the Maddalena lake, towards Cuneo for over 50 kilometres; it divides the Maritime Alps (on the right orographical side of the river) from the Cottian Alps. A vast system of karst tableland characterizes the highest part of the valley. At the top of the valley, the Colle della Maddalena connects Italy with the highest part of Ubaye Valley, while the Colle della Lombarda leads to the French Tinée Valley through the Vallone di Sant’Anna.
The Stura valley includes the municipalities of Argentera, Pietraporzio, Sambuco, Vinadio, Aisone, Demonte, Moiola, Valloriate, Gaiola, Rittana, Roccasparvera and Borgo San Dalmazzo.
